Art and Story Adventures
mobile app prototype

As part of the Human-centered Design Research course I took in early 2022, my classmates and I were tasked with following the Research and Design process from interview coding to high-fidelity prototype. Our projects revolved around making art more accessible since the main stakeholder was a local art center. In Phase 1, my team coded interviews from another course, conducted needfinding discussions, created user group stories and problem statements, and brainstormed solution ideas and possible implementations.

In Phase 2, on a new team with the assigned user group of parents and children, my group conducted interviews to gather insights from potential users, chose a solution idea, created wireframes, developed a low-fidelity prototype to run usability tests, and finally implemented feedback in a high-fidelity prototype. In the development process, I helped design the app screens and user flows, and wrote most of the on-screen text, including the example stories.

Our proposed app is called Art and Story Adventures. This app is meant for kids around 7-12 years old, although the design of the app allows for older children to enjoy it as well. In Art and Story Adventures, children can pick stories to follow and illustrate, or write and draw their own stories.

Parents can participate in the process as well through the parent side of the app where they can view their child’s works-in-progress and send encouragement. In the case of unapproved activity, parents can also freeze the child’s account.

Here is the promotional video for Art and Story Adventures. I wrote the script for this video while my teammates recorded and edited the visuals and voiceover.

The scope of the class did not extend past a prototype, but many users we talked to were interested in using a real version of the app.
